PORTRAITURE

THE NEED

At the precipice of a new professional season, Jessica requested portraits that could help define her new era in a manner that embodied power, vision, and beauty.

The Approach

I always begin with storytelling. What is your why? What are we trying to convey with these images? From there I craft a visual direction of how images should come to life.
Portraiture is a vulnerable act and a photographer has to take that seriously and honor the vulnerability of those who entrust them with representing who they are. Portraiture is also a dance and partners must come mutually prepared and willing to engage in it together or the results will reflect that.

The Process

After receiving a brief outline of what a client is trying to convey, I build a moodboard and visual direction to lock in the look that we’re aiming for. Depending on budget, I’ll bring in the necessary partners or direct them as needed regarding wardrobe, makeup, etc.

Direction

For this shoot, I honed in on a light blue background, a two-toned chair, and strobe lighting for an overall even, but empowered look. I utilized low angles and intentional posing direction to embody the power, vision, & beauty we visually aimed to capture with this imagery.
