A SHORT FORM VIDEO SERIES

THE NEED

How does a pure artist, focused on making cohesive bodies of work also create space to regularly speak into and inform The People on pressing conversations surrounding race, faith, and justice?

The Approach

My ongoing short form video series “durag thoughts.” developed from that question. What started as an Instagram stories segment, evolved into a video and audio podcast on youtube and streaming platforms, and ultimately found its home as a short form video series.
“durag thoughts.” is a space where I address topics that align with my mission to challenge perspectives and give hope to the marginalized and oppressed.

The Process

I break complex ideas down into conversational language to empower the people to understand the things that the ruling class has intentionally hidden in coded, unnecessary complexity.
The episodes are generally one minute long to maximize platform usability. They are structured as digestible ideas with an opening hook and leave space for larger bodies of work to address the topics in greater depth.
They are all filmed in my bedroom from my bed to symbolize the disarming and vulnerability of the space and conversations.

Film emulation is a core of my creative style. Film creates “perfect imperfections,” which is a simple, yet compelling metaphor for the human experience. Life is not perfect and polished, it can be grainy and gritty and not fit the perfect shapes that we try to place it with, but that’s part of what makes it beautiful and worth the journey.

Branding

The logo mark utilizes a serif display typeface, stacked and offset in lowercase letters. The intention is to symbolize meeting people at whatever level they are and shifting culture forward.
